Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Sensor Technology
The high performance VISOR ground penetrating radar (GPR) forms the heart of the Husky Mounted
Detection System (HMDS), a combat-proven system that detects metallic and non-metallic mines,
improvised explosive devices (IED), and other buried explosive hazards. The system provides
unprecedented performance in the automatic detection, recognition, and precision marking of
buried threats, while maximizing protection to its operators. The HMDS features advanced real-time
Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) algorithms; integrated GPR and electromagnetic interference
(EMI) sensors; global positioning system (GPS); recordable missions for after action review functions and
analysis; automatic precision marking; and user friendly software. The HMDS has been used worldwide,
ncluding the successful deployment by the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and various allies. The HMDS
remains in use today by Canada, Australia, Spain, and Turkey and will remain an enduring capability for
the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps for the future. HMDS continues to save lives every day, both
soldier and civilian, before the first step.
